The short answer: this Largo kitchen kept its cabinet boxes and got new blue-green shaker doors and drawer fronts, a rebuilt bar wall, four new recessed lights in place of an old fluorescent fixture, and a glass tile backsplash. A project like this runs $13,000 at today’s pricing, a fraction of what new cabinets would cost.
The project at a glance
- Location: Largo
- Service: cabinet refacing, plus bar, lighting and backsplash updates
- Style: shaker doors in a soft blue-green
What we did
New doors and drawer fronts
The cabinet boxes were solid and the homeowners liked the layout, so instead of replacing everything we refaced: 22 new shaker doors and 13 new drawer fronts, with new handle holes drilled and soft-close hinges installed. Every piece got two coats of shellac primer and two finish coats in the blue-green the homeowners chose.
The bar, rebuilt and refaced
The old knee wall behind the bar sat at the wrong height. We took it down, framed a new 10-foot knee wall at the right height, then covered the back of the bar, both end panels and the wall behind the stove with new panels and trim, so the whole run reads as one finished piece of cabinetry.
Cabinet refacing at Bayshore starts at $7,000. Most kitchens run $10,000–$12,500 and large kitchens $13,000–$18,000, with 5 to 7 working days on site and soft-close hinges and drawer slides standard. Your countertops can stay unless we add a cabinet or two.
Typical ranges from our recent projects. Your written estimate, built after we see your space, is what your project is priced on.
Smarter storage
The fake drawer fronts under the sink became working tilt-out trays for sponges and brushes, a small change you use every day.
Better light
The old fluorescent fixture came down and four recessed lights went in, using the existing wiring.
A glass tile backsplash
The homeowners chose a glass tile, which takes extra care to cut and set cleanly, to finish the look.
What refacing like this costs today
$13,000 at today’s pricing for refacing with new shaker doors and drawer fronts, the rebuilt and refaced bar, new lighting and the backsplash. Refacing on its own starts at $7,000, and most medium kitchens land between $10,000 and $12,500. See our cabinet refacing page for typical ranges.
Why refacing was the right call here
- The boxes were sound, so replacing them would have meant paying for demolition and new cabinets the homeowners didn’t need.
- They liked the layout, and wanted a new style, not a new kitchen.
- The bar was the real problem, and fixing it with framing and panels cost far less than new cabinetry.

What refacing can’t fix
Refacing is a great value when it’s the right fit, and the wrong spend when it isn’t. It isn’t the answer if:
- The boxes are water-damaged all the way through. A soft sink base can be rebuilt, but swollen side panels and shelves mean new cabinets.
- You want to change the layout. Moving the sink, the range or a wall means new cabinets anyway.
- You want more cabinets than you have. New boxes can be added to match, but past a certain point a new kitchen makes more sense.
How a refacing job goes
- Measure and choose. We measure every door and drawer, and you choose the style, color and hardware.
- Doors are made. New doors usually take three to four weeks to arrive. Your kitchen works normally the whole time.
- Install. About six days on site: repairs first, then the boxes are covered, then new doors, drawer fronts, hinges and hardware.
- Extras. Lighting, backsplash and trim like the bar on this job happen in the same window.
Frequently asked questions
How much does cabinet refacing cost in Largo?
With us, refacing starts at $7,000 and most medium kitchens run $10,000 to $12,500. Adding bar work, lighting and a backsplash brings a project like this one to $13,000.
Can you reface a bar or peninsula too?
Yes. The back and ends of a bar can be covered with new panels and trim so they match the new doors.
How long does refacing take?
About six days on site on average, once the new doors arrive. Door lead time is usually three to four weeks.
Will refacing match my countertops?
Refacing keeps your countertops in place, so choose a door color that works with them. If the countertops are going too, choose them first and the door color second.
