This Lutz kitchen had good, solid cabinets in a finish that hadn’t aged well. The boxes were fine and the homeowners liked the layout, so there was no reason to rip anything out. We refinished every cabinet in Sherwin-Williams White Flour (SW 7102), a soft, warm white. Same layout, same boxes, completely different kitchen. With us, cabinet refinishing starts at $5,000, and most medium kitchens land between $8,000 and $10,000.

Why refinish instead of replace?
When I walk a kitchen like this, the first thing I check is the boxes. If they’re solid, square and not water damaged, and you like where everything is, replacing them is spending money to get back what you already have. Refinishing changes the color and the feel of the room for a fraction of a remodel, and it’s done in about a week instead of a month or two.
If the boxes are damaged, the doors are falling apart, or the layout just doesn’t work for how you cook, refinishing isn’t the answer. That’s when I’ll point you to refacing or new cabinets, and I’ll tell you why.
Kitchen remodels at Bayshore start at $28,000. Most full kitchens run $36,000–$50,000, and semi-custom or custom kitchens with layout changes run $50,000–$85,000 and up. Cabinets and countertops are included in those ranges, every kitchen gets a 3D rendering, and time on site runs 3 to 10 weeks depending on size.

What does refinishing a kitchen like this involve?
- Doors and drawer fronts come off and get finished separately, so every edge gets covered.
- The rest of the kitchen gets sealed off and protected before anything is sprayed.
- Every surface is degreased and sanded. A finish only lasts as long as the prep under it, and kitchen cabinets carry years of cooking grease you can’t see.
- A bonding primer goes on first, then the finish coats in the color you picked.
- Doors get rehung and adjusted, with new hardware if you’re changing it.

Why White Flour?
A bright, pure white can look cold in Florida light, almost blue in the afternoon. White Flour has a little warmth in it, so it reads clean without feeling stark. It also sits well next to wood floors and stone countertops, which is why it works in so many of the kitchens we do.
How do you keep refinished cabinets looking new?
- Clean them gently. A soft cloth with mild soap and water. Skip the scrub pads and harsh cleaners.
- Wipe up splashes around the sink and dishwasher quickly instead of letting them sit.
- Go easy for the first few weeks while the finish fully cures.
- Use the touch-up bottle. We leave one with every refinishing job for small nicks down the road.

Warm white or bright white?
White Flour is a warm white, which is why it worked in this kitchen. Warm whites look soft and inviting next to wood floors, beige tile and creamy countertops. Bright whites like High Reflective White look crisp next to cool gray and white stone, but can feel cold in a warm room. If you’re torn, put both samples next to your countertop and look at them at different times of day. The right one is usually obvious.
Other colors homeowners pick for a refinish
- Snowbound: a soft white with a hint of gray.
- Repose Gray: a light, warm gray that brightens dark kitchens.
- Naval or a deep green: most often on islands, paired with white perimeter cabinets.
