How Much Does a Kitchen Remodel Cost in Tampa Bay? Real Prices by Size

Home › Blog › Kitchen Remodeling from $28k › How Much Does a Kitchen Remodel…

A kitchen remodel with us starts at $28,000. Most smaller kitchens land between $28,000 and $36,000, most full kitchens between $36,000 and $50,000, and semi-custom to custom kitchens run $50,000 to $85,000 and up. Cabinets and countertops are included in those numbers. Appliances, light fixtures and faucets are your picks, so they sit outside them. Below is what you get at each level, where the money actually goes, and what pushes a kitchen up or down the range.

Why doesn’t any kitchen start at $20,000?

I get asked this a lot, because you’ll see lower numbers online. Here’s the honest answer: I’m not going to do a full kitchen, done right, with new cabinets, countertops, the plumbing and electrical, and permits where they’re needed, for $20,000. Not one I’d put my name on. A small kitchen with base-level countertops in the layout you already have is where we start, and that’s $28,000.

If your cabinets are solid and you just want them to look different, that’s a different job and a lot less money. Refinishing starts at $5,000 and refacing starts at $7,000.

What does each level of kitchen remodel include?

These ranges come from our recent jobs around Tampa Bay. Your written estimate, built after I’ve seen your kitchen, is what your project is actually priced on.

  • Small kitchen remodel: starting at $28,000, most $28,000 to $36,000. New cabinets, base-level quartz, backsplash and lighting, in the layout you have now.
  • Full kitchen remodel: starting at $36,000, most $36,000 to $50,000. New cabinets, quartz, backsplash, flooring and lighting, in your existing layout.
  • Semi-custom to custom: starting at $50,000, most $50,000 to $85,000 and up. Semi-custom or custom cabinetry, bigger kitchens and layout changes.

Every level includes demo, protecting the rest of your house, dust barriers and cleanup every day, every trade it takes to install it, and permits where the work calls for them.

Where does the money go in a kitchen remodel?

Cabinets are the biggest single piece. On a medium kitchen, the cabinets alone usually run $12,000 to $15,000 before they’re installed. Going from stock to semi-custom to custom is the biggest jump in a kitchen budget. That one decision moves a kitchen between our levels more than anything else. If expensive cabinets are your thing, that’s fine. Just know that’s what drives the number.

Countertops are next. More on quartz below.

The rest is the work: demo and haul-off, plumbing and electrical, drywall repair, backsplash, flooring on a full remodel, paint and the finish install. You can’t see most of it in a photo, but it’s what decides whether the kitchen still works right in ten years.

How much do quartz countertops cost?

We offer quartz in three levels: Best Value, Mid Level and High End. Best Value is what most of our customers pick, and it’s what our starting prices are built on. Template, fabrication, install, a standard edge and an undermount sink cutout are included at every level.

For a medium kitchen, quartz usually lands between $6,000 and $8,000, depending on the level and how much counter you have. A big island, a fancier edge or a specialty slab moves it up. The price climbs through the grades and then flattens out. Past that point it mostly goes up when the room needs another slab.

One thing I always tell people: quartz is an indoor product. Keep it inside, in the air conditioning. Direct sun can yellow it over time, and the cheaper grades are the first to go.

How much does a backsplash cost?

A plain subway or simple square tile is the most affordable route. Mosaic, herringbone, stacked and patterned layouts, or a full-height wall, take longer to set and cost more. Most kitchen backsplashes land between $2,000 and $3,500 installed, before the tile you pick. Even a small one takes almost as much layout and setting time as a medium one.

What do the common add-ons cost?

These are the ones people ask me about most:

  • Under-cabinet lighting: $1,500 to $2,200 for most kitchens
  • Extra recessed lights: a couple hundred dollars each
  • A pot filler over the stove: under $1,000 in most kitchens
  • Moving the sink: from under $1,000, more if the drain runs through concrete
  • Moving the microwave, which needs its own new circuit: $1,000 and up
  • A vented range hood where there’s no vent today: $5,000 to $6,000 and up

The range hood is the one that surprises people. Venting a hood outside means new ductwork through the attic, a roofer to cut and seal the roof, a permit, a new circuit, a hood cover built around the insert, and everything finished back. Put all that together and it’s easily $5,000 to $6,000, and more on some houses.

What makes a kitchen remodel cost more?

  • Cabinet grade. Stock to semi-custom to custom is the biggest single jump.
  • Changing the layout. Moving the sink, range or fridge means moving plumbing, gas or circuits, and usually patching the floor.
  • New venting, wiring or plumbing. A new hood vent, a relocated microwave or moving the sink adds up fast.
  • Countertop level and size. Stepping up from Best Value to High End, or adding a big island.
  • Permitted work. New circuits have to meet today’s code, with dedicated circuits for the dishwasher, disposal, microwave and fridge, and arc-fault protection in most cities. It’s a real cost, and it’s the right way to do it.
  • What’s behind the walls. Water damage under the sink or an uneven slab found at demo. When we find it, I show you and price it in writing before anything gets covered back up.

What makes a kitchen cost less?

  • Keeping the layout. Same sink wall, same range spot, same fridge spot. This is the biggest saver there is.
  • Stock or semi-stock cabinets in a good plywood box instead of fully custom.
  • Best Value quartz instead of Mid Level or High End.
  • A plain subway backsplash instead of a pattern or a full-height wall.
  • Buying your own appliances, light fixtures and faucets. Most of our customers do, and we’re happy to install them.
  • Not remodeling at all. If your boxes are solid and you like your layout, refinishing or refacing might be all you need. Here’s refinish, reface or remodel side by side.

I’ll ask for your budget at the consultation, and it’s not so I can spend all of it. Knowing the number is how I figure out which of these levers gets you the kitchen you want inside it, before anything gets ordered.

What have real Bayshore kitchens cost?

Why is one kitchen quote so much lower than another?

Two quotes can look alike on paper and be built very differently. When you compare, make sure both include:

  • All-plywood cabinet boxes, not particleboard
  • Dovetail drawer boxes
  • Soft-close hinges and soft-close, full-extension drawer slides
  • The quartz brand and grade, written down
  • The same countertop level and edge
  • Permits where the work needs them

When one number is a lot lower, it’s almost always because one of those changed. Ask what it is, and get it in writing.

How long does a kitchen remodel take?

Once work starts: a small kitchen takes 3 to 5 weeks on site, a full kitchen 4 to 6 weeks, and semi-custom to custom 6 to 10 weeks. Cabinet lead time comes before all of that, which is why I order cabinets before we tear anything out. They’re delivered to your house before demo starts, so your kitchen never sits gutted waiting on a truck. The stage-by-stage version is in the kitchen remodel order of operations.

Who is a Bayshore kitchen remodel right for?

We’re a good fit if you want the whole kitchen done in the right order, permitted when it needs to be, with honest numbers up front and a clear line between the work and your selections.

We’re not the right fit if your total budget is well under $28,000, or you just need one small repair or one trade. If all you want is a new cabinet color, refinishing is the better money. If you only need one trade, ask and I’ll send you to someone I trust.
